Things to see and do in the area

Tennis court available at the foot of our hill.

Horeke is the end or start of the "Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail".
The Mangungu Mission house is nearby.  Here the biggest signage of the Treaty of Waitangi took place.

Close to the Mission are the oldest Grave Stones of New Zealand. Cause of death was often drunkenness by sailors who fell over board and could not swim.

The world famous Wairere Boulders Nature Park is just 3 km away from us and well worth a visit.

The Omahuta Kauri Sanctuary is 30 km towards North.  A forest reserve which was never logged and created by the Department of Conservation in the early 1950ies.

Have a stroll up the sand dunes opposite Opononi. Up there you find many interesting sandstone sculptures towering some 20 m.

The nearby Koutu Boulders are believed to be the biggest concretions in the World. They can easily be scheduled into a day trip to the Kauri Tree with the biggest volume (Tane Mahuta) or the Kauri with the biggest girth (Te Matua Ngahere).

It is great fun to play hard ball with your family on the shore of the Hokianga Harbour.

We can offer numerous other suggestions on things to see and do within easy driving distance.
